3 Ways to Use Affirmations to Boost Self-Esteem

February 7, 2020

The month of February is known for many things. It is known for Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, and National Go Red Day just to name a few. This month is also International Boost Your Self-Esteem Month. So, what exactly is self-esteem? Self-esteem is confidence in one’s own worth or abilities. Self-esteem can be shaped by family, peers, environment, or society as a whole.

According to Real Girls, Real Pressure: A National Report on the State of Self-Esteem, “Seven in ten girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with friends and family members” (2008). It is important for women and girls to develop a healthy self-esteem so they are able to thrive in life. One way of building self-esteem is through the use of affirmations. Affirmations are statements of emotional support and encouragement. By incorporating affirmations into your life, you are training your brain to believe what is true about yourself. I will share with you  three ways you can use affirmations to boost self-esteem.

  1. Say affirmations out loud in front of a mirror.
  2. Write down affirmations in a journal and read them on a daily basis.
  3. Listen to recorded affirmations on platforms such as YouTube.

In order for you to boost your self-esteem, you must make a conscious effort to do the inner work, and affirmations are a part of that work. If you are having trouble coming up with your own personal affirmations, search for some online. Google is your friend, and that search engine takes the guesswork out of it for you. I also wrote a book of affirmations called Affirm the Queen: 50 Affirmations That Empower Women and Girls for Success. Check it out when you get a moment.

Take the time to affirm yourself daily. It only takes a few moments out of your day. After weeks of incorporating this practice into your life, you will begin to experience a mental shift, and eventually you will able to manifest your desires.

You are fierce and fabulous! Own your greatness today.
