Anastasia Valimaki is the 2018 Royal Spotlight of the Year

January 15, 2019

I created the Royal Spotlight Interview Series in 2018 as way to recognize and honor queens from pageant systems that do not always get the recognition they deserve. This interview series birthed the Royal Spotlight Awards which showcases those queens who have been featured during the Royal Spotlight interview series. The awards program is a competition that includes a People’s Choice and Essay Competitions (What Does Royalty Mean to Me?) Even though I featured a total of twelve queens for the Royal Spotlight interview series in 2018, only three queens chose to participate in awards competition. A panel of judges scored the essays of the three queen and the combined scores of the essay and people’s choice votes determined the winner. Anastasia Valimaki, America’s Elite Miss 2018, was selected as the 2018 Royal Spotlight of the Year, and she also won the People’s Choice award. To learn a little more about Anastasia, check out the following paragraph that details her community service during her reign:

“My community service activities are diverse and impactful. Most recently, I built a library for a community in Sierra Leone, Africa. I collected gently read books and fundraised to ship over a thousand books for a library to be used by students. I also supply little libraries around my community with the books I collect. My volunteer research at the University of Florida allows me to work with rats to test protein adsorption on electrodes with the hope of benefiting the society at large as we seek for treatments for Parkinson’s Disease, Epilepsy and other motor disabilities. I also host canvas painting nights at Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville, bringing families a moment of distraction from their struggle.  With the Medical Journal Society, I organize craft events for children that are patients at the UF Shands Hospital.  I also volunteer for American Finnish Community and Midnight Sun Festival, maintaining their social media presence. Volunteering is something that allows me to pay it forward. I volunteer where I can, not concentrating on one cause alone, but rather helping where my skills and experience can be utilized. We should all be so blessed we can give back and help others feel blessed also.”

As you can see Anastasia is heavily involved in her community, and she has done some amazing things throughout her reign. Pageantry is not just about the crown; it is what you do what the crown that truly matters.
