Krystle Clear Pageant Review: 3rd Annual Miss Natural Hair and Health Expo Beauty Pageant

April 26, 2018

2018 Miss NHHE Beauty Pageant Contestants with Pageant Director Carlotta Blake-King

The 3rd Annual Natural Hair and Health Expo Beauty Pageant that was held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama. This pageant celebrates women ages 18 and over who have chosen not to chemically relax their hair. The pageant also provides an opportunity to spotlight and recognize women who have committed to embracing their natural texture and a natural lifestyle. This event coincides with the Natural Hair and Health Expo which is a day long event filled with vendors, fashion shows, speakers, and workshops.

This year eight lovely contestants who were chosen from a preliminary competition that was held on January 21, 2018, graced the stage and exhibited beauty, style, high energy, and confidence. The pageant was hosted by Timon K. Durrett of OWN’s Queen Sugar and Tasha Simone of Hot 107.7. The pageant began with the contestants dressed in their red attire performing an opening number routine to” New Attitude” by Patti LaBelle. After the opening number concluded, they competed in the following areas:

  • Viewer’s Choice Award (Judged by Social Media and Top Ticket Sales): 10 points
  • Introduction/Speech/Interview: 30 points
  • Overall Appearance (Grown, Presentation, Poise, and Grooming): 20 points
  • Most Impeccable Natural Hairstyle: 30 points
  • Final Question (Top 5 finalists and heir score starts at 0): 10 points

Total Points Possible: 100

Even though all of the ladies did a fabulous job, only one contestant captured the coveted crown. The following contestants were awarded pageant honors:

Miss Social Media: Jasmine Burks

Top 5: Breanna Jackson

Top 5: Dasha Shaw

2nd Runner Up: Sarah Davis

1st Runner Up: Caryn Wheeler

Miss Natural Hair and Health Expo Beauty: Jessica Alexander

2018 Miss NHHE Jessica Alexander

Now it is time for the verdict. Was this pageant Krystle Clear? Absolutely! I have had the pleasure of attending this pageant for the past 3 years, and I have always been pleased with the production and the caliber of contestants. I know this pageant will continue to grow and give ladies an opportunity to celebrate their natural beauty. I am looking forward to following Jessica’s reign, and I know she will do some amazing things. See you again in 2019!
