Royal Spotlight: Sarah Addison, National American Young Miss 2019 – 2020

May 12, 2020

The Royal Spotlight is an interview series where I highlight queens from a variety of pageant systems.  This month I have the pleasure of featuring Sarah Addison, National American Young Miss 2019-2020.

Tell us about yourself.

I am a 9 year-old third grade, honor roll student who is enrolled in both the gifted and talented program and the Spanish Language Immersion Program. I am a member of my school’s chess club and running club. I live in Texas, volunteer in my community, and I am active in my church. I am a competitive dancer and trained in ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz and hip hop. I have won numerous awards, including National Talent and National Spokesmodel Awards. I am also a multi-award winning equestrian who shows miniature horses. I enjoy dancing, spending time with friends, reading and traveling. My goal is to be a nurse, like my mother and grandmother.

My platform is Drowning Prevention for Children, and I work with The BMF Project (@thebmfproject) and The Safe Kids Foundation (@safekidsfoundation) to bring awareness to drowning prevention and water safety. I have spoken in public forums on this topic, distributed safety materials to children and participated at local fairs to promote drowning prevention in children.

When did you start competing in pageants?

Why do you compete in pageants?

I compete because it’s a good and fun way to meet new people, and who doesn’t like a friendly competition?

How many titles have you won?

I have won 3 titles:

Little Miss of Texas for American Pageants

Young Miss of Texas for National American Teen & Collegiate Pageant

National Young Miss for National American Teen & Collegiate Pageant

Tell us about the Miss National American Teen & Collegiate Pageant.

I think it is the best out of all the pageants I have been to. It is really fun, and everybody is nice. I enjoyed it!

What have you learned about yourself through your pageant experience?

I have learned that I really like pageants, and I discovered the more girly side of me.

What are your future plans for your pageant career?

I don’t know what pageant will be next. Right now, I am just focused on my current title and bringing attention to drowning prevention. I think pageantry is fun, but I also dance competitively and have other interests.

What words of advice do you live by?

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

-Martin Luther King, Jr.
