Royal Spotlight: Ashley Hunt, Miss Alabama Black Expo 2018

August 1, 2019

The Royal Spotlight is an interview series where I highlight queens from a variety of pageant systems.  This month I have the pleasure of featuring Ashley Hunt, Miss Alabama Black Expo 2018.

 Tell us about yourself.

My name is Ashley Hunt originally from Saint Louis, MO, and now I reside in good ole Huntsville, AL. I am the proud owner of Wink Lash Company, LLC where my goal is to provide beauty products at an affordable price. I started Wink Lash Company, LLC to support myself and my son, proving that as long as you keep the faith, you can accomplish anything.

I am a proud single mother of a six-year-old boy. Last August, I won the title of Miss Alabama Black Expo. As Miss Alabama Black Expo, I have promoted my platform “Together We Raise a Family.” This platform is to bring awareness and support to single parents and encourage them to obtain a degree or trade being that I believe education is the true key to success. My goal is to encourage and teach black business aspirants how to start their own business to provide a better life for themselves and their families. I just graduated from Alabama A&M University with my Masters in Family Consumer Sciences with a Concentration in Human Development and Family Studies.

When did you start competing in pageants?

My very first pageant was the Miss Omega Scholarship Pageant. Where I placed 3rd and received the title of Miss Purple and Gold.

Why do you compete in pageants?

I decided to compete in pageants because I wanted to prove so many people wrong. As a child, I’ve always dreamed of being in pageants and competing, but I never got the opportunity. When I became pregnant with my son, I was told that I was not fit to be a queen because I had a child out of wedlock. For a while I was discouraged, but I decided to not listen to the negativity and push forward and become a queen anyway.

How many titles have you won?

So far I’ve only won two titles, but I hope to win many more.

Tell us about the Miss Alabama Black Expo Pageant.

Alabama Black Expo goes to great lengths to make every aspect of Miss Alabama Black Expo special. The pageant is cutting edge and encourages self-love and showing young woman it’s okay to love who you are. The Miss Alabama Black Expo Pageant is here to make a difference.

What have you learned about yourself through your pageant experience?

No matter what you do as long as you put your mind to it and have faith and confidence you can achieve anything. You can be curvy and fabulous; just be confident in who you are. God allows wonderful people in your life who are willing to help you to become a better you. I am ever so grateful for all the people I was able to meet and build a beautiful bond with.

What are your future plans for your pageant career?

I plan to participate in more pageants but for now, I am taking a break and hopefully by the fall I can start training for another pageant.

What words of advice do you live by?

Stay true to yourself no matter the circumstances. Never give up or give in; your day will come but only in due time.
