The 3 Different Types of Pageants

February 22, 2018

Pageants, pageants, and more pageants! There are pageants everywhere. Pageants are like churches. They are on every street corner and several in every city, but they are not created equal. It is important to know and understand the different types so you can pick one that best suits your desires and personality. Pageants fall into one of three categories: glitz, semi-glitz, and natural.

Glitz

If you have seen the TLC Show Toddlers and Tiaras, you are aware of glitz pageants. Glitz pageants focus heavily on the physical beauty. Contestants will wear heavy makeup, false eyelashes, and spray tans. Flippers (fake teeth), hairpieces and full wigs are also allowed in glitz pageants. Contestants will wear baby doll dresses that are adored with sequins, beads, or rhinestones. Their OOC (outfit of choice) will be over the top and elaborate.

Semi-glitz

Semi-glitz pageants are toned down versions of glitz pageants. They are a variation of a glitz pageant and a natural pageant. Contestants can wear makeup, but the makeup must be age appropriate. Also hairpieces and wigs are normally not allowed in semi-glitz pageants.

NaturalĀ

Natural pageants focus on natural beauty as well as internal beauty. Makeup is not allowed for younger contestants unless it is lip gloss. False eyelashes, flippers, hairpieces, and spray tans are not allowed.

There is no pageant type that is better than the other. Each type offers something different. I personally prefer natural pageants because they focus on the entire girl instead of just her outward beauty; however, there is no right or wrong type of pageant.

The ultimate goal is to manifest a crown. Remember, a crown does always mean a piece of headgear. It can also mean a sign of achievement.
