Live vs Online Pageants

February 15, 2018

Pageantry has undergone significant changes with the growth of participation and advances in technology. You now have the choice of competing in live and online pageants. Yes, online pageants are a thing.

Online pageants have many of the benefits of a traditional live pageant, but there are some major differences.  Let’s explore the differences of live and online pageants.

Live

  • You have to cover all expenses related to the pageant. That includes application/registration fees, travel, attire, hair/makeup, accessories, accommodations, meals, and other miscellaneous expenses.
  • You have to perform in front of a live audience. This can include the interview, evening gown, or onstage question competitions. You are judged based on your performance in those areas or more.
  • You get the opportunity to network with contestants, staff, and other pageantry professionals.

Online

  • The only expenses you are required to pay are the application and/or registration fees. . There is no traveling involved because you compete from the comfort of your own home. Online pageants give contestants a more frugal alternative to competing.
  • There is no live audience in this format.  Many online pageants require you to create an online portfolio in the form of a website, video, or presentation. You are judged based on your online portfolio. There are even some online pageants that are strictly photo pageants where your photos are the only item (s) that are judged.
  • There is really no networking opportunities. Your main contact will be with the pageant director, and most of that contact is through email or social media. You may take it upon yourself to reach out to contestants and form relationships.

If you are thinking about competing in an online pageant, check out these systems.
